Login

Just after getting login and register working. Flash connects to a java servlet and reads from a database table. Was having minor issue at first with register everytime you registered it would increment the id in the table but would not take in the values. I have started on the code for the items that you collect. I am thinking of using booleans and an array but will have to put more thought into it. At the moment I am working on the other three rooms, they will be a public restroom, a rundown apartment and a safe room.

Presentation on Thursday

So the presentation was on Thursday and it went well. I got a good idea from Pat about adding video clues to the game. The reason for this is that the purpose of the game is to find a missing artifact. Clues are hidden in different buildings and within each room there are clues which can be used to unlock something in another room. All the clues will be about Limerick and the video clues would be of buildings in Limerick where you will only see an obscure view of the building and you need to guess what it is to progress. This week my goal is to sort out the back end of the game i.e. the code. I need to add a login and register function and a way to keep score throughout the game. I have an idea in how to do the login but the scoring will be harder as I might need to set up a cookie to save it to the server.

another change in navigation

I have added in a new feature for the map. When you click on a building the map will zoom to that area. As the map I was using was a graphic I decided to use images from Google Earth , I chose Perth for some reason. Anyway I used pins to represent the buildings and then one at a time zoomed to each and used print screen , bringing it into PhotoShop. I have also added in animations for the login window. Now it comes out of the building and increases in size.

change in design

So on the advice of Pat I have changed the interface for the game. I have gotten rid of the cog menu and now the map is the main navigation . Clicking on certain buildings will bring you to the home section or the login and register section.

3d room





I have been trying to create the 3d room in 3ds max but it seems to be taking longer than expected as I have to sort out the lighting and cameras. Here is my first attempt and I plan to use invisible buttons to interact with the room.

so its been a while

So its been quite a while since I have updated my blog so first things first here the version of my project I showed in the design presentation. This was the initial idea for the game where most of the game would take place in the fictional Magnus city and by selecting certains buildings it would bring you to a room escape type game where you would find clues within the room.
